The torsional flutter of bluff bodies is a subject of interest to many applications in civil engineering. Bridges, towers, cables and support structures can suffer from this phenomenon. Contrary to galloping oscillations, torsional flutter is not very well understood and there are no simple quasi-steady approximations to describe it.
The purpose of the present research is to investigate the phenomenon of torsional flutter oscillations on a rectangular cylinder. The effect of several parameters on the phenomenon are being examined. Such parameters include airspeed, wind-off angle of attack and position of the torsional axis among others.
